Hiking

Chadburn Lakes

An extensive trail system in the Chadburn Lakes and Hidden lakes area offers hours of easy to medium hiking opportunities. Discover the variety of small lakes, sun exposed grassy slopes with amazing views and boreal forest just outside of Whitehorse. On our way, we will visit beautiful Miles Canyon and do a quick stop at the famous Fish Ladder, that allows Salmon to climb over the Whitehorse dam on their way to their spawning grounds.

Fish Lake Ridge

Rise above it all! This hike starts at beautiful Fish Lake and climbs above the tree line up to an alpine ridge overlooking some of the prettiest mountains and lakes the Whitehorse area has to offer. This excursion offers an easy to medium trail of 7-10 km length with approximately 300-400m elevation gain.

Nares Mountain

Nares Mountain is one of our favorite hikes in the Southern Lakes region. It requires a good fitness level to hike to the summit. The distance is only about 8 km but we will clock a 1000m elevation gain during this medium to difficult excursion. But the reward is worth the effort: Stunning views over Nares Lake, Tagish Lake and Bennett Lake and the surrounding mountains make this full day hike a special treat. Round out the day with a visit of the picturesque community of Carcross.

Kusawa Ridge

Kusawa Ridge is a prime hiking destination in Kusawa Territorial Park. Starting with a nice walk through the forest this hiking trail quickly gains elevation as we climb above tree level up to the summit plateau. Enjoy the stunning views overlooking Kusawa Lake and its surrounding mountains. If we are lucky we may spot some of the Dall sheep living in these heights. This is a medium to difficult hike with approximately 8 km distance and almost 900 m elevation gain.

Canoeing

Chadburn Lake

Clear blue water, a soaring bald eagle and the splashing of a wary beaver, the peaceful boreal forest, the rocky limestone cliffs of towering Grey Mountain – Chadburn Lake is a nature lovers gem not far from the busy downtown area of Whitehorse. Pull your paddle through the water and explore this beautiful lake by canoe. Your guide will provide a brief introduction to canoeing and accompany you on this little excursion.

Yukon River

Start your full-day canoeing adventure right in downtown Whitehorse and explore a section of the mighty Yukon River. This beautiful river has been an important fishing and hunting ground for First Nation people and became a historic transportation route for tens of thousands of adventurous prospectors seeking their fortune during the 1898 Klondike Gold Rush.
