How do I read a map? How do I plan a wilderness trip based on the information in a map? How do I use a compass? How can I efficiently combine map and compass in the field? And what should I do in case I do get lost in the woods?

This course will give you all the answers! Besides some basic lectures you will have plenty of time to practice your new skills in the field. Knowing how to use map and compass will also lay the ground work for the proficient use of GPS units and provides a reliable back-up should satellite based navigation fail.
